Anyone and everyone who is committed to persuading our political leaders to take meaningful action to curb gun violence is welcome at our meeting, whether or not they are connected formally to Shir Tikvah. We intend to have a brass-tacks discussion about what we hope to accomplish both in Minnesota and federally, and how we can help to reach these goals. Bring your outrage, bring your energy, bring your ideas. Sign up here.
We are calling everyone who is interested in organizing for statewide and federal legislative action against gun violence to come together to make change. Please join our effort. We are particularly focused on renewing the Federal Assault Weapons Ban, which prohibits manufacture for civilian use of certain semi-automatic firearms, so called "assault weapons,” the likes of which were used in Newtown and Aurora, Tucson and Minneapolis.
We will be meeting at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday, January 20, a day that Shir Tivkah has already set aside for reflection and service on the life and teachings of Martin Luther King, Jr. We honor Dr. King’s memory, a preacher of peace who was a victim of gun violence, by holding the first meeting of our anti-gun violence team on that day.
The Shir Tikvah team leaders of this effort are Rebecca Lowen, Doug Rossinow, and Zoe Nicholie. Please feel free to contact any of us or Rabbi Latz if you have questions about the planning gathering or want to talk about this effort.
We wish you peace and wholeness and inspiration to keep working on this very important issue.
