A big thank you to the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District for their grant of $10,700. Field Outdoor Spaces will be prepping the sites for us next week so that we can do the planting and mulching around the rain-gardens on the 11th.
The rain-garden installation will take place, rain or shine, unless there is lightening. For heavy rain, in the morning we will delay until afternoon. If in doubt about the weather, contact Amy Lange: 612-281-4308, or Zoe Nicholie 612-232-7411. You can sign up for the morning shift from 10-12, the afternoon shift from 12-2, or both!
What to bring: gardening gloves, sun hat, water bottle, sun screen, bag lunch if you are staying the whole shift. If you can please also bring a shovel, hand trowel, and rake. Snacks provided. Field Outdoor Spaces will provide staff to oversee the project and our own John Humleker, Master Gardener Extraordinare will also be there to cheer us on.
We are so excited to be moving forward on this Gan Tikvah project's Phase One - the four rain-gardens. Phase Two will begin next spring and when finished we will have a beautiful, sustainable landscape around our synagogue that will engage and educate congregants as well as neighbors and surrounding community around protecting our water, growing healthy fruits and vegetables, and providing beautiful spaces to interact with nature. Thanks to the Gendler Grapevine Grant and to the Shir Tikvah Caryl Barnett Vision Fund for financing Phase Two of the Gan Tikvah Project.
Please RSVP to to let us know if you are able to volunteer on October 11th and indicate how long you will be able to help us out. Thank you so much - it will be great to work together with you on the Gan Tikvah gardens!
