Beit Midrash with the Rabbis: Exploring Jewish Questions, Mysteries & Ideas from the Talmud to Today
In our Beit Midrash (literally “house of study”), we will have the opportunity to dive deeply into great Jewish texts with a teacher and with one another. Each session will include an introduction by the rabbi, followed by chavruta study (a special learning relationship, with a holy text and a partner) and a wrap-up at the end. Most of the session will be your own learning and pacing, in an environment with other learners. Come when you can; each session stands alone; for all levels of learning. Rabbis Latz, Rappaport, and occasional guests.
Sunday, December 15 - Special guest Rabbi Jeffrey Schein “Text Me: Judaism and Technology”
Rabbi Schein, project founder, recently relocated to the Twin Cities to be with family. He has been a prolific Jewish educator for almost 40 years. Text Me: Judaism and Technology is a joint project of the Jewish Education Center of Cleveland and the national Covenant foundation. The first two words of the project title, Text Me: Judaism and Technology form a double entendre. By noting both the world of social media in “text me” and the tradition of Jewish sacred wisdom embodied in Jewish text we mean to suggest a relationship between the two that can encompass both synergies and values-conflicts between the two worlds. The best way to explore both in our judgment is create frameworks that allow for dialogues among adults, children, and families .
