Shir Tikvah has two youth groups, one for children in 6th through 8th grade, and one for children in 9th through 12th grade.
Adult advisors facilitate both groups. The emphasis is on recreational and social action activities that Jewish children can enjoy together.
The goal is to keep Jewish children involved with each other, sharing positive experiences.
Activities have included a fundraising latke feast at Chanukah, a clothing drive and a food drive.
The older group participates in NFTY, the Northern Federation of Temple Youth. Our region includes four
states and Southern Canada. Regional conclaves provide an opportunity to meet Jewish children from other cities, and to study such
issues as "the meaning of Mitzvah," and interdating/intermarriage.
Several of the regional board members have been and continue to be from Shir Tikvah.
"Because our whole congregation is still relatively small, the whole group is likely to participate in the activities we plan," said a high school senior. "That's an advantage because we get to know each other and become friends. It's also easier to make decisions when planning programs on social and religious issues, or other activities."
