A Reform Congregation Serving the Twin Cities

Service Commitment

Shir Tikvah is a highly participatory congregation. The ongoing effort of sustaining our activities is a shared responsibility.
...involvement at the outset of membership is critical to your integration into synagogue life...

Whether we host an oneg, develop programs at the committee level or hold office on the board of trustees, each member's contribution is critical to the life of Shir Tikvah.

Everyone's ability to participate in committees and projects tends to vary from year to year, but involvement at the outset of membership is critical to your integration into synagogue life.

One important way that the participatory nature of Shir Tikvah is expressed is that each household makes a commitment to co-host a Shabbat oneg or kiddush approximately once each year.

Oneg hosts play an important role in fostering the special spirit of Shir Tikvah Shabbat services. They participate in the welcoming of congregants by assisting the ushers before services begin, and they make themselves available during the oneg or kiddush to talk to congregants and visitors.

Members are assigned a date, or may choose a date, if they prefer, for example, to celebrate a special event. Food assignments and instructions are mailed to each household during the year.
